The land of the Golden Sun (one road to Mar Musa)

June 14, 2010

After Lattakia, Crak de Chevaliers and the Convent of Malula (the only place in the world where Aramaic is a first language, Raj, Max and I began our journey to the monastery of Mar Musa – 17km from any form of civilisation, 11th century stone and up 500 steps, men and women separated upon arrival.

Here are some pictures from our journey there:

leaving Maluula

Raj leads us...

our last ride leaves us 12k from the monastery - time to split from the busy (ie. one car every half hour) road

middle of nowhere - we heard a sheep herd and a bell. that was it.

the gate (the first gate) to the monastery. so begins the climb...

looking down

this is what a remote monastery looks like.
